Originally, I was looking at an automatic WRX. I somehow deviated.
This is why I can’t go to a dealership alone.

Every ounce of me screams no at the idea of an automatic WRX. I once drove a 06 wagon with an auto and the transmission ruined the entire car.

I imagine that automatics and CVTs have made plenty of progress in 11 years.

I too, once screamed “HERESY” at the idea of an autotragic WRX. Unfortunately, family needs new car and none of them can drive stick.
I’m allowed to pick the next car, though! :D

Sure but they are still going to keep you out of boost in the name of running at lower revs all the time.

I think a SS is the solution to your problem.

I live in Washington and we get snow on our (slightly) hilly streets.

If you haven’t decided on the brand, go drive everything if you have time. Did that with my mom back in the late 90s - sure, she bought the car I’d predicted (Malibu) but we learned a lot in the process. There might be a car out there you’ve never even thought of ...

That’s kind of why I left it in Manual mode and gunned it.

I would say buy a family car with an automatic now and grab something fun for yourself later. Not much point in neutering the fun car to force it into family duty. The Forester makes a better family car anyway.

The 2.0 is gutless and has no torque but the 2.5 does a pretty good job of moving my Mom’s 2017 Outback. I personally prefer the 2.5 + CVT over the 3.6 + 5 speed auto that was in our 2010 Legacy.
